“Dancing on Water”- Reddish Egret

“Dancing on Water” features a life-size, white-phase, reddish egret that I carved realistically in Wood. Also, I carved the impressionistic base in Marble. Entertaining to watch—known for sprinting, jumping, and spinning around in shallow water with its wings held up, these birds Canopy Feed, where they cast shadows with their wings held over water to see their aquatic prey better. Dark morphs are more common than white morphs, as I depicted here. While Immatures are paler grayish and rusty overall, in breeding plumage, the pink bill and blue lores can become shockingly bright. White morphs are similar to other egrets and are found exclusively near the coast, especially on mudflats. This original, one-of-a-kind work  is one of my most involved sculptures, taking over half a year to complete.
