Scarlet Tanager

Until recently, the scarlet tanager was placed in the tanager family, but interestingly now, it is classified as belonging to the cardinal family. Wintering in South America, these birds migrate to North America during the Spring looking for food, partners, and nesting habitat. I have been lucky to observe these birds in the oak trees of my yard as well as nesting in the mountains of North Georgia. Consequently, I carved this beautiful songbird in wood as well as created some of its natural habitat (deciduous tree) and food (inch worm and red beetle) out of metal and wood.
