“Manana Iguana”

I was inspired by a friend’s pet iguana some years ago for this unique sculpture. While I carved the green iguana and dragonfly from tupelo wood, I hollowed a maple burl, which kind of looks like a mouth, for the base. Recently, I added the fabricated metal branch along with the blue dragonfly to tell more of a story for this tropical reptile. Although it’s largely a herbivore and native to South America to Mexico and the Caribbean, the common iguana is the most traded reptile in the U.S. because of its calm disposition and bright colors. Nevertheless, it requires space with special light and heating, which can prove challenging to the hobbyist. I titled this original sculpture after a children’s book, “Mañana Iguana”. The dragonfly also reminds us that we should live in the moment.
