While I have been fortunate to have been awarded many Public Sculptures, Art Installations, and Commissions over the years (see more examples in Wall Sculptures and Installations category), 2024 has been especially exciting and rewarding.
First, my original carved egg proposal for “The Good Luck Duck” was selected for the Charlotte SHOUT! Easter Eggs on Parade Arts Festival in April, 2024. Standing 6 feet tall, I sculpted the giant hatching duckling and egg from fiberglass. While the sculpture is a playful, postmodern statement on new beginnings, its large scale, realism, and attention to detail makes it fun, original, and innovative.
Next, “Waxhaw Spirit” was selected for The Waxhaw Sculpture Walk in Waxhaw, North Carolina. I carved the large red cedar slab (8 feet tall) into a stylized depiction of Native American Indians. In particular, it is a monument remembering the Waxhaws and the region’s unique heritage, history, and culture. My ancestors, John and William Bartram, had memorable and pleasant experiences with Native American Indians in North Carolina during the 18th Century. In turn, I strive to show this spiritual connection through my artwork.

I also finished installations in private collections. One features a pileated woodpecker perched on the rafters of a 100 year old log cabin home. Another features two, life size, great blue and great white herons for an impressive mantle display. My ancestor, William Bartram, was the first American artist/naturalist to describe and illustrate the great blue heron; therefore, I’m honored to follow his footsteps.
