Polar Bear Plunge

“Polar Bear Plunge” - Carved Wood and Acrylics. Ironically, I’m posting this original sculpture when it reached 100 degrees. Wouldn’t it be nice to take a plunge like this bear? The largest bear in the world and the Arctic's top predator, polar bears are a powerful symbol of the strength and endurance of the Arctic. Holding onto the last of his glacier domain, I had fun carving this original in wood. Also, I love bears; so this is a fun artwork. Of course, it’s serious as well with the status of polar bears vulnerability and its receding glacier habitat. This artwork won first place in animal woodcarving (professional division) at The Georgia National Fair. Also, it won first place and best mammal open division at the largest woodcarving show in America, The 43rd Charlotte Woodcarver’s Showcase of Woodcarvings.
